ABOUT THE PIECE
This rug is handwoven on a pedal loom by artisans in Teotitlán del Valle, following the Zapotec tradition of flatwoven sheep's wool. The wool is spun and pre-dyed using natural pigments such as cochineal, pericón, and indigo, which are combined with earth tones and the natural un-dyed color of the wool to build the chromatic composition.
The design is integrated directly during the weaving process through thread changes, without any subsequent embroidery or appliqués. The result is a piece that unites ancestral symbolism with a contemporary interpretation of color and geometry.
Every piece is unique. Slight variations in color, texture, or pattern are part of its beauty and a true reflection of its handmade nature.
Care & Longevity
This rug is crafted from sheep's wool, a naturally resilient and durable fiber. Regular vacuuming is recommended to remove dust and maintain the fabric's texture. For spot cleaning, clean only the affected area—dry clean or gently hand wash—using cold water and pH-neutral soap. Avoid abrasive products and refrain from prolonged exposure to direct sunlight to preserve the color's intensity. With proper care, this piece is designed to withstand everyday use and accompany you for many years.
Artisanal Impact
This rug is artisanally produced in a small family workshop in Teotitlán del Valle, generating direct income for the local economy. Its creation contributes to the preservation of traditional Zapotec techniques and promotes responsible production, rooted in manual rhythms and natural materials.
