ABOUT THE PIECE
Handwoven sheep's wool cushion crafted on a pedal loom, following a traditional technique from Teotitlán del Valle. The geometric design is integrated directly into the weave, creating a firm and well-defined surface.
In this piece, the cochineal is processed through multiple dye baths, yielding a range of hues from light pinks to the deepest reds. These nuances coexist beautifully with the natural white of the untreated wool, generating contrast and depth within a single design.
The result is a subtle and balanced chromatic interplay, where color is built in layers, revealing the artisanal process behind each tonal variation.
Technique
Flatwoven on a pedal loom. The wool is spun and pre-dyed using natural pigments, and the pattern is built directly during the weaving process—without any subsequent embroidery or appliqués—honoring the traditional textile methods of the region.
Care & Longevity
Wool is a naturally resilient and durable fiber. Regular vacuuming or gently shaking the cushion is recommended.
For spot cleaning, clean only the affected area with cold water and mild soap. Avoid abrasive products and prolonged exposure to direct sunlight.
Note
Every cushion is one of a kind. Slight variations in color, texture, or pattern are inherent to the artisanal process and form an essential part of its value.
